Smoke from the “Station Fire” infiltrating Las Vegas

Those pesky Californians are at it again. Now they’re invading our airspace with their smoke! And I thought they were environmentalists…

Smoke from the "Station Fire" as viewed from Mt. Wilson

The Station Fire, as it’s being called, is sending lots of smoke westward, right into the Las Vegas valley. The photo above is from the Mt. Wilson webcam and was taken just after 7pm on Sunday, August 30th.

The skies here in Las Vegas are very hazy, and when driving home from the store this evening, the sun was about 30° above the horizon and was blood red.

I grew up very close to where this fire’s burning. When I was just 6 or 7 years old, a fire threatened our neighborhood in La Crescenta, in the foothills north of Los Angeles. As we had to then, the residents of that neighborhood are being evacuated again now.

Stay safe, everyone. Oh, and next time, keep your smoke to yourself! :)
